Latter to The City Council

(Practice Clip 2)

Dear city council,

We have heard that you have been facing problem between two option. One option is reduce fares for subway and another option is improve service more frequently in subway and busses. Don’t you think that reducing fares is important in this bad economy? I believe that reducing fares will help our group of people who need to go out everyday from the house. Mostly it will help like adolescents, senior citizen and, working people.

Reducing fares is important for adolescents. One reason that it will help the adolescents with money. When they have to go to school or collage they have to ask for money to their parents. If the fares is too high it will effect the family because transition is also their monthly money budget. So it’s will be heard for the family to take of the family. Another reason that it will make frustration in their life. If student doesn’t have enough money to do their important things like buy book ,buy fares to ride that could be effect on their study. I think lessen the fares is really important for adolescents who are going to school or college.

I also can say that reducing fares is not only important for adolescents but also important for senior citizen . To begin with most of the senior citizens doesn’t have good retirement plan. So they have to live like they are not enjoying the life. They can’t have their necessary stuff because of their money is limited. If fares are expensive it will be really heard to get out from the house for them. On the other hand , immigrant senior citizen, whom does live worst then other citizen. We can infer that because when they come to the USA , they are already old. So they don’t have enough money flounce neither retire meant plan. So they have to asked for money from the city or from their family who they live with. If the fears goes high that will badly effect on the city or the family. So I think reducing fares will be convenient for the senior citizen.

Reducing fares is also helpful for the working people. Another reason that, in this days our economy is not in good situation. So the working people need to budget their amount how much they can expense. I think in this case they won’t able to pay extra money for the transportation. It is important to reduce the fare for the working people. Secondly, job is the impotent issue right now in the USA. So many people lost their job in this years and they have to survive with limited money. If you increase the fares it will effect their regular life. So reduce the fares will be very important for the working people too.

So our request to the dear council is to be fare with public, because it will help our adolescent, senior citizen and working people go out often and to have a enjoyable life. I think you can intense on reduce the fare and that will be the best choice.

Censorship

Censorship is the controlling power that is control some kind of information which is not suppose to listen the people. We usually see this in the move or in the song where the bleep out because it more offensive for people. There is so many things that censored by censored board like Artist ,art, and movies , songs and news which is censored because they think its offensive to people, it could be bed influence for the country.

In 1999, the Brooklyn Museum of Art had an exhibition with controversial painting. Chris Ofili, a young English painter who had African roots, made a painting called The Holy Virgin Mary, using elephant excrement and obscene pictures cut from adult magazines. Mayor Giuliani and some Catholics are offended by the painting. They believed it was disrespectful for Catholics and The Virgin Marry. Giuliani threatened the Brooklyn Museum Art that he would take away public funding if they kept the picture in the exhibition. The Brooklyn Museum Art wanted to challenge him by keeping the painting in the show. The censorship wasn’t successful because it was against the first Amendment. Joan Bertie, the head of the National Coalition against Censorship, supported the Brooklyn Museum Art also. She thought that the community had the right to make the decision about what they wanted to see or not. The government is not allowed to take away financial support just because it was offensive for some of them. I don’t agreed with Joan Bertin because I think it could effect on the communities religious people before they think it’s right or wrong with art.

John McCollum killed himself in 1984 while he was listing the music of rocker Ozzy Osborne. Jon’s parents sued in California civil court against Osborne and CBS records. The McCollum’s blame the Ozzy Osborne song, Suicide Solution, saying it had the direct attraction to the people who are surviving in frustration. Jon’s parents said that their son was suffering from alcohol and emotional problems. They said their son, after listening the Osborne song was influenced to killed himself. The California civil court denied the request based on the First Amendment. His parents appealed again, but the result was same. The court said that the persons should understand the music, is like a expresser and it’s not like a command. If music says that kill your self, that doesn’t mean you have to kill yourself. And the court said that Osborne has right to express his constitutional right. I agree with the song that Osborne sang also with the court, because whoever listen the song should understand that this is a song not a command to do some thing wrong.

Exiled oud (some kind of gaiter)player Rahim ALHaj was a political prisoner of Saddam Hussein who escaped from Iraq. And he started to live Europe and than make new home in New Mexico. A journalist took his interview and asked him “How does Iraqi music change when the musician doesn’t live in the Iraq anymore?” And he said “ I think my music has develop more, it becomes universal,” Also he said it becomes involved more globally than just locally. Iraqi government exiled him because of his song .One news paper said he is ‘prophet with an oud’ because they thought his massages was humanism. One of his record the soul is settled was meditative and exploration of Iraq. When the country was in turmoil, their music was in refugee status. The oud is unfamiliar in the united states , even for the musicians, he tells them its like the violin. Also he said that there is many other country who play the harmony why don’t take that example to the world. He was feeling better than his home to live in the US because he can express his opinion freely. He describe that the general state of avoiding Middle East culture in the US, fueled by the media. He asked “ How many times have you seen an Arabic intellectual, or poet?” And they said none! Alhaj said to the media that some kind of media never brought the good collection of their country they always try to collect the bad thing. What is happening to the country that they never notice that. I agree with Alhaj because everybody should have right to make their choice in fact it’s a human rights. These are only songs. If people listen, that its not wrong. They can listen to good songs or bad songs. That doesn’t mean people will be follower.

In this essay, we can say that in the world everyday there are so many thing which are censored. People could be exiled or a song could be band and art could be taken way from the museum. It’s all depends on the people. Some people think it ’s would be the best choice for the nation. And they think if they don’t do that it could be bad influence. I don’t think it will be the best choice to band the move, songs and art because if it is for the adult they can understand what is good and what is bad. And if it is for the children they shouldn’t make those kind of move or song which is need to band.

Album : Kavi Toh Nazar Milao.

Kavi Toh Nazar Milao is an album of Indian classic pop music. This album was a really big hit in 2000, and it was made by duet singers Adnan Sami and Asha Bohsle. They each had several solo albums before they joined together. But this one made by them. It has combine songs and it is really great. This album was a “Dream Come True.” For Adnan Sami. But Asha was already the queen of singers in India . So it was really good luck for Adnan Sami’s future. Adnan is an Asian ,western classical , jazz, and modern pop- rock singer. “Kavi Toh Nazar Milao album” was the record breaking album of his life. This album was best duet by Asha Bohsle and Adnan Sami in 2000.

Kavi Toh Nazar Milao has thirteen songs. All of the songs are in Hindi and all the songs are about love, emotions and feelings. I like all the songs , but two of them I like the most. First, the song Kavi Toh Nazar Milao Kavi Toh Kariv Aow ( Some times Look at Me and Some times Come Close to Me) is a great song. I like it because the lyrics and the rhythm are cool and romantic. This song is about a girl and a boy. In the song the girl liked the boy so much and the boy also liked the girl so much but they don’t know. After they met they want to tell each other, but they can’t say it. They only say it with their eyes . I like this song because it has feelings. I liked this song the first time I heard it. After that I realized that I have to keep this album in my top five list. The next song is Beegi Beegi Rato May Far Tum Aow Woo Na (Can You Come This Rainy Day Again Can You Come at This Moment) This song is romantic sad song. This song is kind sad because the girl is not with him. So he is missing her at that moment . And that is about that girl he had met before, and calling by singing he want’s her to come to him and he want’s to sing with her in the rain.

My favorite moment of this album are the number one song and the number three song because it makes a romantic and sad mix. How ever I would like to give this album about four and half stars. The lyrics are really good, and the story is really interesting. If you like Indian classic pop songs I would recommend you to listen these songs . This albums one of my top five albums because it is really romantic and has meaningful songs you may like.

Dear Mayor,

I have heard that you received a large donation. And you trying to make decision between two options one is improve the school in the bad neighborhood and another one is improve the quality of the neighborhood near tourist action. Don’t you think this is very important to improve the school in the bad neighborhood,? I believe that this is will be very promising to our city. We need to be careful about the neighborhood school because it will really make our education, economy and up coming program profitable in the future.

The neighborhood always depends on our city education. If the education system is better in the society, the neighbors must be polite and organized. First of all, schools have to have better teachers. If the school has better teachers than school will have strict rules. Students have to fallow the rules, that way they can’t escape from the school. Also they will have to finish their homework and they have to show that next day to school which will keep them busy to study. That way neighborhood will be polite. Secondly, in the school, if they have after school education system that will be better choice for the students and for the neighborhood. If after school, students has to stay for two to three hours more in the school that way they could finish their homework. This is also good effect for neighborhood because as long as stay at the school neighbors will be polite they are not going to have time to make unnecessary friends or talk on the street. So for the students it is really helpful for future study improve and it will effect on our education and which is related with neighborhood.

A bad neighborhood is also bad influence for the economy. First, when the people don’t work, they have to depends on the city shelter for food and shelter house which is effect on city economy. If the neighborhood has a good school, the parents will think about their children better future and they will try to send their children to school. When more and more students will go to school they will be educated and in the future they can and get jobs place which will help the country. Second, getting a job is one of the main problem to make bad neighborhood because when the people don’t have jobs they can make the family members worst. Whoever doesn’t have a job they are frustrated and make the family in a fight situation . If the people study and become educated, they can have good job. That way the people will be able to keep their family peace. Also that will be good influence for the neighborhood.

If we have some new program in the school which will help the neighborhood students. First of all if the school has new computer and the students are allow to do their research and home work in the school. Who doesn’t have computer in the home, and if they can do that in the school that will make the students more brighter and they can stay long in the schools and everybody will be encourage to go to school. Secondly, art is one of the program which is also keep the students busy at the schools. It is also impotent for the students to achieve their goal because they can spent more time in the school instant of spent extra time with friends. That way students will be inspire to study more and neighborhood will be quite and everybody will be busy with their work which is going to make the neighborhood better.

So our request to dear mayor is to think about the situation which is really improve the neighborhood because it will improve our upcoming program economy and education better you are the one who can think about the situation. I think that will improve our city condition too.

Rob

High Fidelity is a book written by Nick Hornby. We have been reading it throughout our semester. It is very interesting to learn about the main character. In this book the main character name is Rob. While we were reading we saw he was confused about his life. From the beginning to until now his relationship with his parents, friends and his girlfriends wasn’t clear that what kind of relationship he wants from them in his life.

Rob’s relationship with other people is weak because he never had so much communication with the people he knew. First of all, Rob’s relationship with his parents is distant. He didn’t have so much contact with his parents after he moved away to London. We could see that when he came to meet his parents at their home, they were different than before. He used to see them drink homemade wine, now they were testing official wines. They never went to parties, but he saw them at the neighbor house. After he moved they changed a lot, and he didn’t expect to see that. From this we can infer that he didn’t have so much communication with his parents. Secondly, he had bad relationships with women. Form his teenager years to adulthood he didn’t have one girlfriend for longtime. His first girlfriend broke up with him in six hours. After that he broke up with so many girls. Girls were always breaking up with Rob because he was insecure and immature. They did not like him because they want him to be more like a boyfriend, which is something he wasn’t. That also impacted his relationship badly. Thirdly, Rob relationship with his friends. In the book we saw that he had some friends in the past but he didn’t hang out with them for a long time. Barry and Dick were the men who were working with him. They seemed liked his friends, but in the past his relationship with his friend was not so friendly. In this time also with Barry and Dick sometimes he shared his feelings to them sometimes he didn‘t. While we were reading, we saw when he had problem with one of his girl friends, Laura, and he didn’t have anybody to share his birthday. He was feeling lonely, then he remembered his old friends, otherwise he never contracted with them. So Rob relationship with people always was weak and not so close.

Rob’s personality is different than other people in the book. All the characters in the book were strong because they never hesitated, or felt frustrated like Rob when they had to make decision. Firstly, he was living with frustration because he felt insecure. He broke up with Charlie because he was intimidated by other men. After he broke up with his fourth girlfriend. He was depressed and frustrated then he quitted his study. When he saw one of his ex-girlfriend was in rich position and she was with her rich friends he felt envious. Also he felt frustrated about quitted his school. After that he implies that if he could finished his study he could have good job and he could be happy like them. We can say that he wasn’t secure in his personal life. Secondly, Rob’s honesty in his life. We saw when women tried to sell the records to him a cheap priced, but he didn’t accept it. He knew the record collection wasn’t that cheap, so he didn’t accept her offer because he wanted to pay right amount for that record. So we can say he is an honest person we saw one time while we were reading. On the other hand he felt insecure in the bed when he had intimated situation. While he had intimate situation with Mari he felt insecure. Also with all other girlfriends he was insecure and he was talking himself why he was not successful in his life. He didn’t have self-confidence about his own ability. He was thinking about was he going to make them happy or not? After he had close relationship with Marie he felt he wasn’t that bad the way he thought. So his personality was totally immature and different than other people.

Rob’s love situation was awful. First of all, with his first love he was humiliated. Alison was his first girlfriend. At that time he was immature and he wasn’t sure what to do with her. Alison felt that Rob wasn’t her type and then she made the relationship with Kevin Bannister. When he felt that she was avoiding him he felt miserable. They were only twelve or thirteen years old. They were both totally innocent. Their relationship was only for six hours and they don’t know why they broke up. Secondly, Charlie was his fourth girlfriend. When he met her he thought she was the one he was looking for. They both liked each other. He was young enough to spend the night with Charlie. They were dating for two years. After that Charlie found more interesting man than Rob and he was intimidated by that man. He was feeling insecure about his love. Charlie went for Marco, that’s how they broke up. Rob liked to be awful in his relationship. Thirdly, his relationship with Laura I think was important. He was saying that she is not important but it’s not true. In this age broke up was hard to accept for Rob because he felt inferior about his personal ability. They used to love each other. Laura felt bored in their relationship. She felt that Rob changed. He did not love her anymore like before and he was always busy playing his records. After that she broke up with him and moved to another man, named is Ian. In the end Laura rejected to stay with Rob. Rob is really confused person in his life. We never saw him in the book that he was so patient about his love. So he was being obtuse about his love and which was made his life awful.

Rob’s relationship with people and his personality also his love life wasn’t really cooperatives. We saw him as bewildered person. In our life we shouldn’t act like Rob because he wasn’t sure what does he wanted from his life. We should be self-confident and be sure how we are doing and what kind of planning do we have for the future. In this book the author Nick Hornby try to tell us that men always try to have the power even though when they don’t have to. He showed in the book how the man feels when they pretend to act like he is not showing the power dominate women which is he wants’ to. The author believes that men shouldn’t be like chauvinists. I think he believe that men or women no one should have that attitude in their life.
